G-Phone image sparks fresh rumours

Gphone mock upA user on the Mobile Burn forums has sparked a fresh set of Google phone rumours by claiming to have taken part in an online survey about the device, and has backed this up by posting an image claimed to be a mock-up of the ‘G-Phone’.

The poster, ‘MaDnEzZ’ goes on to say that the specs for the handset (which is rumoured to have been created by Google in parntership with Samsung), include 3G, wifi, and a 2MP camera.

In related (and somewhat more substantiated) news, Mad4Mobiles has uncovered a Google patent for a mobile app that filters and adapts your searches based on where you are, what time of day it is, and what you’ve previously Googled. Which would be useful and kind of spooky, all at once.

    You reckon?
That odd sheen does look a little ropey (like a layer that’s deterioated as the image has been resized) nevertheless I think the Google phone is on - they’ve got their paws into everything!

Definitely Photoshopped… give me 15 mins and I’ll come up with something similar. But there is also definitely something going on with Google in the mobile phone world right now. Whether it’s an actual handset, or some major new application, or a new partnership with another company… well… we’ll have to wait and see what bubbles-up.

There’s an upcoming handset (I work for a major UK network) branded the Samsung ‘Mighty’ or G600… ‘G’ Series??? Any connection maybe?

    Very interesting…

Google and Samsung announced that they were working together back in January this year, saying that:

Beginning in early 2007, selected Samsung phones will be provided with a range of Google products and services aimed to create a more dynamic user experience, including:

    • Google search: Samsung handsets will include a Google icon in the application menu, providing users with one-click access to Google search
    • Google Maps for mobile: Also featured on Samsung handsets will be Google Maps for mobile, an application that enables users to view maps and satellite imagery, find local businesses, and get driving directions when they’re on the go
    • Gmail: Gmail for mobile devices, a new application that brings more speed, convenience, and functionality to the mobile Gmail experience, will also be available on Samsung handsets

…so my guess is that you’ve seen something related to this initiative — perhaps the first (as far as we’re aware) Google-Samsung phone to hit the UK…? To check out the full press release click here.
