Samsung’s 8GB NAND Flash chip

Samsung 8GB flashTech giant Samsung has just announced a new 8GB NAND Flash chip, which it claims is the highest-density memory of this type ever developed.

Able to chuck data around at up to 52MB a second via its ‘moviNAND’ MMC (MultiMediaCard) interface, the Samsung chip is expected to see about $4b (£2b) worth of sales over the next three years. Our expectation is that more than a few of those units will feature in iPhones and iPods.

(8GB on a chip… and to think we used to get excited about our 512KB Amiga memory upgrades at £30 ($60) a pop…!)
