It’s been a busy morning over at the Nokia press office, but this latest announcement is possibly the most interesting of today’s releases (so far).
The Big N is bringing Web 2.0/ Apple Mac-style (okay, and Vista too now) widgets to its latest S60 phones (smartphones and the Nseries). Widgets are basically lightweight applications that use data from the internet to give you up-to-the-minute info at the touch of a button. Nokia is calling the underlying system ‘Web Run-Time’, which you can read more about by clicking here.
Some of the examples given so far include a weather widget (show here), a chat application, a Reuters news browser, an Amazon shopping trolley, and a translation tool. So long as they don’t end up hogging all your phone’s memory, widgets could be pretty sweet addition to S60 handsets.
