Over 100m S60 phones shipped

Nokia 6120Nokia has just announced that over 100 million phones using its Symbian-based S60 OS (like the new Nokia 6120 Classic shown here) have been shipped so far. Over 57 different handsets have hit the streets to date, with 28 over those using the latest S60 3rd Edition.

Matti Vänskä, Nokia’s Vice President of Mobile Software Sales and Marketing (VPMSSM to his friends) outlined where the S60 platform is headed: “We see three key trends affecting the requirements for software platforms. The mobile device is becoming the hub for personal experiences, whether focused on imaging, business, music, navigation or video. People are accessing Web 2.0 services and content with their mobile device. Thirdly, simplicity and intuitiveness of user experience are increasingly important.”

Frankly, all this talk of Web 2.0 seems so yesterday. Surely it’s time for Web 3.0?
