Just a quick note to any of our readers that happen to be bee keepers or even just bee sympathisers who read our piece about the harmful effects of mobiles on bee populations to say don’t throw away your handsets just yet.
It turns out that mobiles don’t necessarily kill bees after all. Cordless DECT landline phones might however, although the debate about the harmful effects of wi-fi and 3G masts and devices, as well as mobiles still seems to be fairly contentious. Essentially different studies have produced different results and none of the top bee scientists can agree on the whole ‘harmful effects of micro wave wireless technology’ debate yet.
Which is why we need to take a strict approach to dealing with this emergent phenomenon based on behaviour and not technology. For example, any bee that is anywhere near a DECT landline cordless phone receiver is probably inside someone’s house buzzing all about the place like a pest and thus warranting a death sentence. In this case you should leave it to die or if you are a merciful type swat it with a rolled up newspaper. If however you are using a phone out in the countryside and swarms of dead bees start falling about your person, please feel free to feel guilty as hell.
Despite facilitating the use of a wi-fi connection, no bees were harmed during the uploading of this post. I have a slight headache however, wonder what that’s all about?
