Motorola’s ‘media monster’ is… The Z8!

Moto Z8In a move that might best be described as either ‘desperate’ or ‘bizarre’, the ‘media monster‘ phone hyped by Motorola chief Ed Zander last week has turned out to be… The Z8, which Moto announced in February.

Zander clearly knows how to upset the crowd, with many pundits (including us) disappointed at his attempt to build hype for a non-new product — especially with Motorola needing to make a strong comeback from its current financial woes.

Don’t get us wrong: the Z8 is a fine phone, with good video playback, high-speed 3G support, and a 16-million colour screen. But Motorola is also claiming that the Z8 is a ‘mobile TV’ handset, which simply isn’t true because it doesn’t support DVB-H live TV, unlike the forthcoming Nokia N77 and others. All a bit bad form, we think.
