D-Day for European mobile roaming charges

Hang onto your wallets and keep your fingers crossed – calling home from abroad is hopefully about to get a whole lot cheaper. After a few ups ‘n’ downs, the European Parliament is voting today on measures to cap mobile roaming charges.

The plan, which is expected to be voted through, will cap the price operators charge for making a call abroad to 49 Euro cents, while the charge for receiving a call will be cut to 24 Euro cents.

It’s great news if you’re a frequent traveller, although fears have been expressed that the mobile operators will try to make up the revenue shortfall in other ways.
