The days of 400 cable channels available and nothing worth watching are coming to an end. Thanks to new DIY TV stations like Kyte, we’ll soon have a million broadcasters to surf and ignore.
Kyte is one of an emerging class of free mobile video services that enable you to create and share your own mobile TV show stuffed full of videos, photos, interactive polls and the like, which your adoring audience can then view almost-live on their mobile phones.
Naturally, you can see exactly how many people have tuned in to view your masterpiece, so if your mum switches off you’ll be the first to know.
“You share a picture of a dog and within a second or a minute or two, five people are chatting with you, ‘Oh where is that? Cute dog!”‘ CEO Daniel Graf told The London Free Press recently. “It’s this instant connection that makes it pretty powerful.”
Apparently the service now has 4,230 channels, although no figures have been given for the audience. We’re guessing it’s around, oh, 4,230 currently. But don’t mind us, we didn’t think MySpace would catch on either.
