Vodafone catches up with flat rate data tariffs

209-OFF-Vodafone_Square.jpgVodafone UK has finally decided to join the flat rate data tariff party in the UK. Available from Friday the £7.50 per month tariff will only be available to Vodafone’s contract customers and covers a meagre 120Mb of data usage with a standard rate of £1 per day for users who go beyond their limit.

The service will not support instant messaging or voice over IP (VoIP) and Vodafone has stated that it could waive the flat rate if customers abuse the service with these sorts of apps.

Being the UK’s biggest operator, the Vodafone UK offer is a little tardy and more than a little limited, but it will probably help to increase the popularity of flat data rates in spite of stiff competition from T-Mobile and Orange. We smell a price war a brewing (we hope).
