Omnifone’s MusicStation goes live

image_demos_main.jpgWe first came across Omnifone’s all you can eat mobile music subscription service, Music Station, way back in February and now the service has officially gone live. Available in Sweden through Telenor now, the service will be launched in the UK next (apparently within a few weeks) followed by a host of other European countries after which it will branch out even further afield.

The service has support from over 30 carriers and hardware giants such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung. The biggest players in the music industry are onboard too including Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, EMI Music and Warner Music International plus a host of independents.

The service is clearly no pipsqueak and may even have enough clout to step out of the shadow of the iPhone’s forthcoming iTunes colossus. We are especially interested in the community features that allow playlist and track sharing with friends who also use the service. Not bad for ₤1.99 a month.
