Softbank readies something for the weekend

810P

Stylish Japanese operator Softbank is launching two new phones this Saturday: the 805SC (which we coveted here) and the Panasonic-built 810P. Design-wise, the 810P looks to be the hipper of the two. It’s a slider — or a ‘flat slider’, according to the official propaganda — which is a handset design concept we have a particular fondness for, and it’s available in seven shades of funky. Beneath the hood, there’s a 2-megapixel camera, a microSD slot for cards as chunky as 2GB, and enough software to help keep the insides of Japan’s train carriages eerily silent. All of this is transmitted to users’ eyes through a 2.6-inch VGA TFT. Not spectacular, then, but a well-balanced handset nonetheless.
