Ever been for a night out drinking, and ended it thinking you’re getting messages on your phone from scurvy pirates? Yeah, rum does that to us too. But recently, the cause was far less boozy. Mobile marketing firm Hypertag has been promoting the new Pirates Of The Carribbean game via Bluetooth in a bunch of London bars.
The campaign involved delivering video clips and images of the mobile game to drinkers’ handsets, with the aim of persuading them that it’s worth investing a fiver in (presumably an easier task as the night goes on). It’s a neat form of marketing, although Hypertag hasn’t announced how much it boosted sales of the game, so it’s hard to judge exactly how effective it was.
