With just 11 days to go until the launch of its iPhone, Apple has issued a press release claiming dramatically improved battery performance compared to its initial estimates — 60% better in the case of talktime. On top of that, the company has announced that the iPhone’s screen surface will be, ‘upgraded from plastic to optical-quality glass to achieve a superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity’. Nice.
The new versus old battery times are as follows:
Talktime: 8hrs (was 5)
Standby time: 250hrs (no previous claim)
Internet use: 6hrs (was 5)
Video playback: 7hrs (up from 5)
Audio playback: 24hrs (up from 16)
The press release also re-confirms the price points of $499 (£250) for the 4GB model and $599 (£300) for the 8GB. Hit the jump to see Apple’s chart of these times against the iPhone’s competitors.
