Truphone criticises T-Mobile for “blocking” VoIP calls

Mobile Voice-over-IP provider Truphone has come out swinging in its row with T-Mobile, which Truphone says is blocking its users from calling Truphone numbers. The company says T-Mobile is the only UK operator to take this approach, despite its parent company Deutsche Telekom having invested in another VoIP firm, Jajah.

“This affects every new entrant into mobile telecommunications because the only company that can facilitate interconnection with T-Mobile is T-Mobile,” says James Tagg, CEO of Truphone. “To refuse is therefore an abuse of its position. It amounts to T-Mobile being able to veto a new entrant into the market.”

However, it appears T-Mobile is willing to connect Truphone calls, but at a price that Truphone isn’t willing to accept. Will this row rumble on? Quite possibly.
