Anyone can make it in the mobile phone industry, right? Build a phone and go up against the big boys like Nokia and Sony Ericsson? Easy. Well jeans manufacturer Levi Strauss & Co is certainly having a punt with its new, er, Levi’s phone. It isn’t the first fashion brand to step up to the mobile plate – Prada and Dolce & Gabbana please take a bow – and it probably won’t be the last.
The Levi’s phone looks suspiciously like the Samsung P300 but we’re pretty sure the Koreans aren’t involved. The handset, mined from stainless and arriving in black, silver and sandy finishes, sports a modest features set. This includes a two-megapixel camera with video, microSD card slot, stereo Bluetooth, MP3 player and quad-band capabilities for use in America. It also has a Levi’s custom designed user-interface and 1.8-inch display. We’ve been told Levi’s is currently in talk with the major networks and is looking for a September launch while a SIM-free price has been set somewhere between £270 and £340.
