A trio of licensed titles strut their stuff in this week’s mobile games round-up

transformers_conceptual_designs_33.jpgLast week was the busiest for mobile reviews in a while on our sister site Pocket Gamer, with a total of six titles falling under our thumbs for scrutiny.

The week began with two solid puzzlers. The first, Rubik’s Numbulation, a number themed effort was enjoyable if tailored slightly more towards the Carol Vorderman-esq math wizards of this world tallying a decent 7 out of 10. The second, Rock ‘n’ Blocks, was a much more vibrant music themed affair, that although a tad on the easy side was entertaining and varied enough to climb to an impressive 8 out of 10.

Next came a triple whammy of established licenses. The first was the fantastic Driver L.A. Undercover, an accomplished sandbox drive and gun affair. Great visuals, plenty to do and well crafted gameplay all came together to claim the title a more than worthy 8 out of 10.

Transformers Mobile, releasing to accompany the forthcoming summer blockbuster film, was something of a let down. Despite polished presentation and decent enough platforming action, we couldn’t help but feel the game was a missed opportunity earning it a harsh but fair, 6 out of 10.

It was Starship Troopers: Roughnecks however that really took the booby prize this week. A poorly designed shooter hiding behind lush visuals, we pulled seven legs off of this nuisance before we were satisfied leaving it with a sorry 3 out of 10.

Unfortunately what began as a strong week, ended on a decidedly average note with Panzer Tactics. Proving that ambition unbound can lead only to failure, Panzer Tactics suffered from an overcomplicated design leaving us no choice but to award it a must try harder 5 out of 10.

That’s it for this week, check back next Monday for another clutch of bitesize mobile gaming critiques.
