Skype gives Nokia’s N800 some love

skype_on_nokia_n800.jpgAccording to reports from the recent Digital Experience Show, Skype is finally coming to the Nokia N800 internet tablet (hip hip hooray!). That’s the great news, the good news is that the software will be made available in July. The bad news is that unfortunately the release won’t support the N800’s integrated web-cam for video calls.

Hopefully the boffins at Skype will add this in a future firmware so that we can all go VoIP crazy. Now all we need is a standalone version of Skype on Symbian for all of us who are not lucky enough to own the sexy N800 internet tablet (oh the envy).

You can can a Skype-alike for Symbian: Fring. http://www.fring.com/ It allows you to connect to Skype servers and use SkypeOut and SkypeIn services as well as call your Skype contacts for free. Eats the batteries on my N95 being connected by WiFi all the time, though.
