The good thing about the iPhone having finally gone on sale is that developers have got hold of units, to make sure that their Web 2.0 services work properly on it. This should mean that some of the gaps in the iPhone’s feature-set will be plugged. For example, instant messaging.
The iPhone doesn’t do IM, but Web 2.0 firm Meebo has tweaked its service to run on Apple’s handset. It lets you set up a buddy list and chat to them, and after a few initial snags, is apparently now running smoothly. Expect more of this sort of thing in the coming weeks.
