In what may turn out to be a landmark for mobile VoIP services, Truphone won a court injunction against T-Mobile yesterday ruling that T-Mobile UK must allow Truphone software to be used on devices operating on T-Mobile contracts.
Truphone’s victory against T-Mobile in this case will no doubt send out a signal to other mobile phone operators, prompting a hasty industry wide rethink on mobile VoIP. The Truphone case marks the first time that interim relief has been awarded against a mobile network operator under the Competition Act.
