Nokia is set to release a new Assisted GPS service for all future devices sporting a built-in GPS receiver and as a software update for existing products including the N95. The first handset to feature this new improved GPS performance with be the 6110 Navigator while N95 users can download the new software here.
This software upgrade is a response to some N95 owners complaining its can take 10-15 minutes to receiver a satellite fix from a cold start. A-GPS needs only one or two satellites to get going, rather than four with normal GPS, and Nokia claims it will speeds up the process, taking no more than 30 seconds to lock onto a sputnik.
