Faster 3G for UK in 2007?

That’s according to SMS Text News, which reports that T-Mobile, 3 and Vodafone have all announced plans to support HSUPA in the UK by the end of 2007. However, a quick read of good ol’ Wikipedia seems to suggest that HSUPA is actually all about faster uploading rather than downloading — as HSDPA (on which HSUPA is based) is already available in the UK and pretty damned quick as it is. HSDPA can theoretically hit speeds of 14Mbit-per-second (remember that a lot of home broadband users are running 1 or 2Mbit connections).

However, faster upload speeds will make mobile internet browsing feel much punchier, and if you’re into mobile blogging or picture sharing then HSUPA is going to make uploading content a bit easier. HSDPA uploading runs at up to 384Kbit-per-second; HSUPA’s minimum spec is twice that speed — and in top-spec it’s over 10x quicker. Nice!
