ZDnet has reported that BT is to cease broadcasting its mobile TV service. BT Movio was launched less than a year ago with Virgin Mobile its only partner and it seems that poor sales of the network’s frankly ugly Lobster 700TV phone (pictured) and lack of support from the other major networks has put the kibosh on BT’s ambitions. Both parties are in talks about when and how to wind down the service.
Another nail in the coffin was the European Commission’s recent support for the DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast for Handhelds) mobile TV standard, a strong rival to BT Movio’s DAB IP technology.
