Sony Ericsson P3i specs leaked?

P3iFollowing on from recent mock-up images of the phone, Just Another Mobile Phone Blog is claiming to have the specs for Sony Ericsson’s upcoming sister to the P1i, the P3i. They go like this…

  • 2.8 inch VGA (480 x 640 pixel) screen
  • Built-in GPS
  • Five-megapixel camera
  • Traditional P series flip (which contradicts the mock-up images)
  • HSPA (either HSDPA or HSUPA)
  • 128MB RAM (like P1)
  • Available in Q2 2008
  • Announcement in Oct or Nov 2007
  • Slimmer and lighter than P990
  • New UIQ (interface) version
  • Wi-fi 11b/g
  • 332 MHz processor
  • Native VoIP support

Now, this may well be simply a fanboy wish-list, but for a 2008 handset most of those specs seem pretty realistic. The shift to VGA screen resolution would be very welcome (doubling the pixel count compared to 240 x 320 pixel QVGA), but squeezing that into a 2.8″ screen would be quite a feat. iPhone manages 320 x 480 pixels in 3.5″ and is said to be remarkably crisp for a mobile screen.

i just hope it has a flip so we have an option and a qwerty it will be hard to switch to a non qwerty device

We’ve read a couple of reviews that have criticised the P1i’s keyboard (which is similar to that on the M600). There’s probably a good chance that the P3i’s could be the same.

I think those reviewers aren;t giving it enough time - there’s a knack to using the keyboard effectively, and once you get practiced it’s very quick and easy.

Yeah, got a P1i right here. Hated the keys at first, I resorted to using handwriting recognition instead… but now I’ve switched back to the thumb-board. It takes a little getting used to.

It’s good to hear you can adjust to it. Sony’s obviously pretty on the ball with industrial design, so it would have been surprising if it had completely buggered up something so fundamentally important.

hopefully it will have more ram than the p1 and it must have at least a better cpu than than the 200mhz…
