We have come across mobile home security software before with SensyScan and now another app called HomeCamera is vying for the opportunity be your home surveillance of choice.
Basically the application works by beaming images (from a PC connected web-cam) of your home directly to your phone. The service is currently costless, though paid subscriptions will be implemented soon (hurry to get it free for a year). After you have registered you can opt to either remotely log-on to your web-cam directly or have the service automatically send you regular updates.
The application also has a clever feature that prompts the camera to automatically take a picture whenever it detects movement as well as an option to allow friends and family to log onto the camera with their own unique log-in details.
Clever stuff indeed – burglars beware!

Remember when we mentioned a while back that Player X is set to bring a whole host of Transformers clips to mobiles? Well, the content which includes clips from the original animated series, the original animated movie and the first Japanese Takara series is now live and ready to download in the UK via Orange, O2 and T-Mobile and can also be viewed live on 3 with geekTV. The clips range from 40 seconds to six minutes in length.
Not only that, but Player X is set to beam the shape-shifting mechs across the globe and will be launching the content internationally via its partners in New Zealand, Australia and China.
The new Transformers live action movie is all well and good, but for us children of the ‘80s, its arrival left us feeling nostalgic for the robots in disguise we knew and loved as tykes.
Check out the video below for a teaser of what to expect.

The Boy Genius Report, source of many a reliable rumour, has just posted the following tidbit related to an upcoming Motorola super phone that the site claims to have the inside line on. BGR says:
We’re talking about a 640×480 VGA screen, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, a 5 megapixel camera lens courtesy of Kodak with a xenon flash, FM radio, 3.5mm headset jack, a Linux-based OS, support for just about every audio and video codec under the sun, and quite possibly a touch screen, too.
While sounding a bit like a crazed Motorola fan’s (which the BGR is definitely not), the list does fit with some past news — particularly the tie-in with Kodak, which was announced back in May. Moto absolutely needs some more killer handsets in its line-up, and this feature list ticks a lot of the right boxes when it comes to defining ‘killer’ — this week, at least.

That’s according to Gizmodo, which has picked up news that the revised N95’s increased 128MB RAM (not storage but system memory) has removed most if not all of the lag that plagues the original version’s operating system.
The Giz also notes that the N81’s (shown right) built-in speakers are ‘really loud’, emphasising again the new handset’s music and gaming features. The phone’s gaming ‘d-pad’ (digital pad) and sideways orientation for gameplay are said to feel fine, but right now there’s a lack of titles designed to make use of the latter.
Lastly, the other other N95, the one that’s been redesigned to work with American HSDPA, is said to have great network performance… But is leaving US buyers of the original version a little unhappy at their near-$1000 (£500) gadget being superseded in a matter of months. For the number of people likely to be affected, Nokia could win a big PR coup in the States by upgrading those older N95s for free.

Phone Daily attended the Chinese launch of the new N95 8GB and had chance to snap a couple of shots to illustrate the difference between the old (well, about six months ancient) N95 and its new & improved 8GB brother. Biggest external differences to note are of course that moody black exterior and the enlarged (but sadly not higher resolution) 2.8″ screen.

With Sony Ericsson rumoured to have an ‘iPhone competitor’ (aka a phone with a full-frontal touchscreen) due to be announced in November, the appearance of — obviously mocked-up — images of just such a device on JAMPB has peaked our curiosity.
There’s nothing like a bit of Photoshop work to get people talking, but the clean lines of this impression do fit with Sony’s recent industrial design efforts, particularly in the MP3 player world. Dubbed both ‘Mooi’ and ‘K900′ by online gossips, SE’s iPhone-a-like is thought to feature a full touchscreen, and, as this mock-up shows, could fall under the Cyber-shot brand. We say: like this with a decent lens and a five-megapixel camera, please!

MacRumors is reporting a story which claims Apple will be introducing a custom ringtones option for iPhone at a press event next week. The new iPhone features are actually a slight sideline compared to the big announcement that’s rumoured to be coming — a new, iPhone-like iPod — but should still be welcome news for the phone’s owners.
The downside is that, as was rumoured in the past, Apple is thought to be planning to charge 99c (50p) to convert tracks you’ve already purchased from iTunes into ringtones. If these stories are true, then in a world cluttered with handsets that can play MP3s as ringtones for free we think this takes the piss, frankly. However, the rumours could be slightly on the wonk, and it could be that Apple wants to sell new, specially composed ringtones instead.
Of course, Mac users (now on both Intel and PPC machines) can always consider using version three of iFuntastic iPhone modding app, which allows you to add your own custom ringtones. Just beware that it may affect your Apple warranty.

Multiple US sites are reporting rumours that bubbled up from America’s trading floors yesterday, claiming that Microsoft may be interested in buying BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM).
The thinking behind the stories runs like this: Google is developing its own mobile phone and/ or phone operating system. Microsoft doesn’t want to get left out in the cold. Microsoft decides to buy its way into a position of strength by acquiring BlackBerry.
Okay, but the world probably doesn’t want Windows Mobile loaded on BlackBerry handsets. So if Microsoft bought RIM, would that mean a rebranding of the BlackBerry OS as a Windows product? Or the development of BlackBerry’s OS into a replacement for Windows Mobile? Whatever happens, RIM shares closed 3% higher last night so its investors will be happy… At least in the short term.

Beaches are not phone friendly places, the delicate slide function on a Nokia N95 just doesn’t mix very well with sand, sun lotion and sea water. If however, you are completely addicted to your handset then you could always stash it away safely in your beach bag.
That is, you could do that as long as you are not planning a holiday that will take you within a half mile radius of Palm Island in the Caribbean. Elite Island resorts, the company that owns Palm Island has deigned that guests will not bring their mobiles, PDA’s or laptops within half a mile radius of the main Casarina beach.
It’s hard to know what to think about this… We’re so torn. Being separated from our beloved phones sounds like hell, but after a couple of weeks in a peaceful Caribbean paradise we could get over it. Actually, come to think of it, being faced with this choice in the first place wouldn’t be half bad…
