Nokia busts out surprise 7900 Prism

Nokia 7900 1Okay, so we knew all about the 7500 but Nokia surprised us today with the announcement that the handset has a big brother: the 7900. There had been some confusion over whether the new 7000-series would be dubbed 7500 or 7900. Now it makes sense: there were two phones. Featuring the same geometric pattern design as its sibling, the 7900 knocks a few extras in to the back of the net.

Technical features include an Organic LED (OLED) screen, an anodised aluminium back, 1GB of on-board storage, a two-megapixel camera… But it’s the phone’s other tricks (similar to those seen in Sony Ericsson’s S500) which are bound to win it admiring glances.

The 7900’s 16-million colour display displays what Nokia is calling a ‘living wallpaper’ which changes dependent on time of day, battery level, and signal strength. On top of that, the phone has a light system beneath its keys which can be set to one of 49 different colours, causing the whole handset to glow with the hue of your choice.

Alongside the 7500, the 7900 will land in Europe in the next few months, priced at €210 (£140) and €400 (£270) plus tax respectively. As soon as we get more tech specs, we’ll post ‘em. In the meantime, check out Nokia’s Prism Collection site — and the big picture after the jump.
