Yahoo! instant messaging is now available to all 3’s customers. 3 already offered Yahoo! Go 2.0, a downloadable all-in-one package as part of the Planet 3 mobile portal. This includes push Yahoo! email on handsets and Yahoo!’s reasonably new oneSearch Internet search engine tailored for mobile phones.
Now, 3’s pay monthly subscribers will be able to chat for up to 10,000 messages a month for life for free, but pre-pay customers will only be able to do this until the end of the year; after then they’ll have to start paying for it.
3 is certainly one of the keenest operators when it comes to offering mobile versions of some of the Internet’s biggest service providers. It’s easy to see why when an estimated 133 million messages were sent in June using Windows Live Messenger (also part of Planet 3).
With Windows Live and now Yahoo! on board for IM, and the recent addition of Google search to Planet 3, it must only be a matter of time before Google’s IM service is also added.
