46 million batteries can be wrong — but ours isn’t bloody well one of them

Nokia battery recall

Nokia has announced that it is recalling some 46 million of the 300 million model batteries BL-5C it has used in its handsets, as around 100 of them, worldwide, have ‘overheated’. Nokia claims that, ‘No serious injuries or property damage have been reported,’ but it must be concerned if it’s willing to replace 46 million of them. We don’t mean to sound selfish, but somewhat annoyingly the tired, old BL-5C in our battered 6680 isn’t one of those affected, which means we’ll have to buy one instead. Dammit.

You can check whether your phone and battery are among those affected by this recall using this special search tool on Nokia’s site.
