It’s time again to take a look at what has been exercising the thumbs of the Pocket Gamer mobile games review staff over the last week.
Cubes kicked things off, offering sturdy pirate themed puzzle action, looting 8 out of 10. TV Quiz followed showing much less imagination and scored 5 out of 10 for its limpid pop culture interrogation style gameplay.
Next in line was PicoPix, a game that successfully melded the unlikely combination of Battleships, Pictionary and sudoku into a satisfying puzzler, grabbing 8 out of 10. Keeping our grey matter contorted into awkward shapes of concentration was 2-4-1 Sudoko and Kakuro, a double whammy number puzzle effort making for an unarguable 7 out of 10.
There was little respite from the week’s fifth puzzle game, the lifelessly titled Common Knowledge Quiz. Boring to play and to look at, this insipid multiple choice examination managed 6 out of 10.
And so from pencil necked swatting to rock god posturing with Guitar Legend. Straight forward rhythm action mayhem with some top notch presentation earned Gameloft’s zeitgeisty title a frets of fire 8 out of 10.
Cool of a very different sort wafted from our screens upon loading up the suave World Series of Poker: Pro Challenge which we dealt a worthy 8 out of 10 for its detailed and involved poker thrills.
And so it was back to puzzles with 2-4-1 Mahjong and Jewel Quest II, another terrific twosome with the potential to leach hours from your day scoring 8 out of 10.
Lastly was a game probably not endorsed by the RSPCA called Smash the Mole. A ‘Whack-a-Mole’ derivative that had enough charm to keep its simple gameplay entertaining long enough for us to award it 7 out of 10 ending the week on a positive note.
Check back next week for what will surely be a less puzzle heavy mobile games round-up.
