If you haven’t already found out your phone’s IMEI number so it can be blocked if stolen, then punch *#06# into your handset now and keep a note of the code that appears on screen. However, if you want to take a more proactive role in sabotaging your handset if it gets pinched, then TXT2LOCK seems like a pretty effectively way of doing it.
Once installed, the S60 2nd Edition app (check compatibility on the TXT2LOCK website) sits quietly on your phone, waiting to be activated by text message. If it gets nicked, borrow someone’s phone and text your handset the activation code. The SMS hits your handset and boom! Instant lockdown is yours.
There are two levels of lock, too. One pretty much totally kills the handset, the other activates a ‘Lite Lock’ which allows incoming calls (but still encrypts your memory card) — so you can potentially negotiate the phone’s return. Or realise that it’s actually just slipped down the back of the sofa.
Pretty nice, simple idea; shame it’s yet to be updated for S60 3rd Edition. You can but TXT2LOCK direct for £6.
Updated 17th August: TXT2LOCK has been in touch to say that some S60 3rd Edition handsets are covered, and that updates are on the way for the N95 and other recent phones.

I think you are wrong about it not working for S60 3rd Edition. My N73 is listed as a compatible phone.
