Email-like voicemail coming to mobiles

E74E23136C5742038EE6A9156B492A35-ashx.jpegVisual voicemail created a bit of a stir when it was revealed to be a new feature on Apple’s iPhone, and now specialist provider Acision has launched its own Visual Voicemail platform for US mobile operators.

Acision is a bit of specialist with its videomail platform powering three quarters of the world’s mobile users. Its new platform for Visual Voicemail will use a graphical interface to make it easier for mobile operators to offer a more intuitive video voicemail experience.

Acision has likened it to letting mobile users manage their voicemail in a similar way to managing their email inboxes. Users will be able to see at a glance who’s left a message and when, what the message is, listen to the audio on their mobile’s media player, and make a return call with one button press, all without having to dial in to do so.

Acision said that when it’s released, Visual Voicemail will be made available to operators for use on Java, BREW and Windows Mobile-compatible handsets.

If Visual Voicemail’s being launched in the US just after the iPhone, hopefully UK mobile operators might want to offer Visual Voicemail as an alternative when the iPhone eventually lands on these shores.
