Motorola, Samsung and LG prepare sub-£150 HSDPA handsets

6120 ClassicDigitimes is reporting that Nokia’s £175 ($350) HSDPA-sporting 6120 Classic (shown right) has ruffled a few feathers in the handset world, prompting Motorola, Samsung and LG to rush to produce the world’s first sub-£150 ($300) HSDPA handset. Those are off-contract prices, of course.

HSDPA high-speed 3G (and its fast uploading cousin, HSUPA) is about to take the mobile world by storm, bringing home broadband speeds to your handheld device. Networks across the UK and Europe are being upgraded at this moment to offer the new, faster speeds.

Digitimes note that worldwide HSDPA subscriber numbers around about to leap from around seven million today to over 56 million by the end of 2008. That’s a lot of handsets about to be sold — hence the rush by Moto and the others to grab a piece of the action.
