CrunchGear has squirted a bit more lighter fuel on the Google Phone rumour bonfire with word from an ‘insider’ at Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC that Google’s handset will launch in Q1 2008. The site says:
Google is currently assessing over twenty HTC models and refining its final handset design and will create a special version of Google Maps, compatible with built-in GPS, and compatibility with Gmail and the calendar app. One extremely interesting point? Google Talk will become a part of the phone, adding VoIP capability to the hardware.
Apparently the insider says that Google’s mobile OS is likely to be Linux-based, and that Samsung may also be in the running to create a Google-branded handset. If something is coming in early ‘08 then expect to hear official word from Google very soon.
