Frankly we fail to see how it is even possible to text someone whilst driving but it seems that enough people are doing it to prompt a strict new law. Drivers caught texting previously had to pay a 2,500 fine or do a hefty dose of community service. But now it seems that jail time (up to two years) is the only deterrent strong enough to keep people’s thumbs off their phones and on the wheel.
The new law extends to a range of other portable devices such as GPS satellite navigation systems and MP3 players too. Considering how many people still make mobile calls whilst driving however there is a concern that this new law won’t be strictly enforced either.
