Samsung, Nokia and Sony Ericsson teaming up to standardise memory cards

68831-memory-cards.jpgThe enemy of my enemy is my friend as the saying goes. In this case that enemy is, erm, different memory card options and the friend part is something to do with Samsung, Nokia and Sony Ericsson; honestly, this analogy sounded so much better in my head.

Anyways, the three companies are set to hunker down and put their heads together in order to come up with a ‘Universal Flash Storage specification’ which would mean no more multi- card adapters. The idea is that cameras, mobile phones and mp3 players among other devices will all share a standard memory card format making sharing data between your phone and other devices that bit easier.

It’s a good idea but one that we are not likely to see in action until 2009. Here’s hoping the cards are good and cheap when they finally arrive.
