Adobe has released Flash video support for mobile phones, meaning users will be able watch Flash Player videos (Such as those on YouTube) and browse Flash-enabled websites on their handsets.
The software, Flash Lite 3, works with a mobile Internet browser and enables animated websites, screensavers, games and videos to be viewed on your mobile screen, just like on your PC desktop.
Some handsets already offer Flash-based user interfaces including the LGs Prada and Chocolate plus the Samsung D900. Flash Lite 3 will offer a more PC-like browsing experience than seen on these devices. Nokia (On S60 Symbian handsets) and NTT DoCoMo have already committed to offering Flash Lite 3 compatible devices. Nokia’s Forum for application developers is already working with Adobe on Flash Lite 3-enabled mobile software.
Adobe promises a ‘richer, more engaging experience’ with its new software, but the processing power and memory needed to run Flash video on a mobile phone is going to seriously restrict the viewing experience to a tiny on-screen box, for the time being at least.
