Rumours surface of a new touchscreen BlackBerry

BBerry9000.jpgRIM might have decided that if touchscreens are good enough for everyone else, then they’re good enough for its BlackBerry devices.

Blog The Boy Genius Report has posted an image of what it claims is a top-secret BlackBerry 9000 (right). RIM’s current range already has a pretty firm hold on the mobile email market — especially in the US — but leaping on the back of the HTC Touch and Apple iPhone could be a very shrewd move to cement its market leadership.

According to The Boy Genius, the new BlackBerry will be HSDPA-enabled, meaning superfast email downloads, and it’ll also have a 600MHz processor for quick menu and task navigation without disappointing lag times. By way of some comparison, the HTC TyTn II has a 400MHz processor.

The report goes on to claim that RIM is also looking at a Backup/Restore function in case you lose your device (and your entire life with it!). No news yet on a release date or pricing, of course.
