It may be a bit blurry but the picture above is of one of next year’s hottest new handsets — and possibly, for Motorola, a return to the front of pack. Shown by Moto at a presentation in Amsterdam, the phone above (codenamed ‘SKARVEN’, which sounds a bit like an Ikea coat hanger), is thought to be a red-hot cameraphone with eight-megapixel sensor, optical zoom and a touch-sensitive display. It could fit into the Z-series, with a Z8-style kick-slider design.
Also leaked during the presentation were three similarly spicy new Motos:
- X PIXL, with a five megapixel camera (set to become mid-market spec in 2008, replacing today’s 3.2MP shooters). It’s thought that the sensor is the one that’s been developed in conjunction with Kodak. Sounds also like the X PIXL could be born as the Z12
- TEXEL, which is a music playing handset with 3.5mm headphone socket and a multi-layered keypad — expect a decent amount of on-board memory with this one
- GENGHIS, a subtly-named business handset with full QWERTY keyboard that’s set to be available in a range of colours
There’s little more info than that right now, but expect to hear a lot more in the coming months. In the meantime, hit the jump for more pics.
