Def Jam on the mobile radio

2defjamWEB.jpgThe Island Def Jam music label has signed a deal with mobile music provider mSpot to launch IDJ Radio, a label-sponsored streamed mobile radio service.

mSpot already offers on-demand radio, music and video services in the US, but this is the first to be sponsored by a particular record label.

Launching later this month, IDJ Radio will feature six urban music channels and on-demand music videos, which will all be streamed to mobile phones in the US. The subscription-based service will include hip-hop/R&B, old school classics, Reggaeton/Latin hip-hop and special programming, all from Island Def Jam artists and artists on other labels.

IDJ Radio is going to be launched at a gala party on the first night of the CTIA Wireless show in San Francisco on 23 October, held at exclusive club Ruby Skye, so no doubt a few celebs will turn up.

Also involved in the part will be Nokia, which will show off its new MOSH social networking service (By giving out invites as barcodes on mobile phones) as well as new N810 Internet tablets playing IDJ Radio.
