Google’s Gmail java app for mobile phones is coming up to its first anniversary , and almost as if it’s a birthday present for Gmail users, a brand new version has been quietly released.

With this new version – Gmail Mobile 1.5 – when you click on a contact you’ll see full details such as their photo and phone numbers. If you’ve store phone numbers for them you can now call them directly from Gmail Mobile.

Another improvement is that you can save unfinished emails as drafts for editing later, and Gmail Mobile can also now show you how much network bandwidth is being used (So you can monitor your costs).

Just like its predecessor, Gmail Mobile 1.5 is available directly from your smartphone, simply by browsing to http://gmail.com/app.
