Hot on the heels of Symbian’s announcement of ScreenPlay and FreePlay promising a richer Symbian OS experience, Nokia has now revealed a touchscreen user interface for its S60 platform at the Symbian Smartphone Show.
Dubbed Touch Interface, it comes with tactile feedback, meaning that when you touch the screen, you’ll feel a physical pulse and feedback on your fingertip.
This will allow manufacturers to develop new devices with a range of input methods such as a traditional keypad, a QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen, either individually or all one device.
Nokia said existing S60 3rd Edition applications will be able run on Touch-enabled devices unmodified.
Nokia also said its new UI Accelerator toolkit for S60, due to be made available next year, will allow also integrate Flash Video so you can view Flash-enabled Web sites and Flash Video, like that on YouTube, on your mobile, just like you can on your desktop PC.
