A Japanese spectacles store called Megane Top (which apparently means top glasses) has started a new service to allow its customers to virtually try on glasses using a mobile phone. It’s not terribly high-tech; basically you take a snap shot of yourself and then overlay images of glasses downloaded from the store’s website to see how they would look.
Dubbed ‘Mobile Fitting’ the service although currently limited to a single store in Japan could have quite far reaching appeal for other retailers. Obviously clothing would be a little more difficult to overlay with such a system but companies selling hats, glasses, jewellery, erm, manacles and other head-gear could all benefit from using a similar service.
You still have to go to the opticians to find out what kind of lenses you need though.
