First Sony Ericsson W960i review says the phone has ‘not much going for it’

W960i

Sony Ericsson’s new range-topping Walkman phone, the W960i (shown right, next to a P1i), has been one of our most hotly anticipated phones of 2007. Featuring 8GB of storage, wi-fi, a touch-screen, the UIQ interface, and a 3.2MP camera, the handset’s technical feature list ticks all the right boxes.

But respected handset review site Mobile Review has just posted its in-depth report on the W960i and found the phone lacking. In fact, it’s final impressions are that the new Sony Ericsson has ‘not much going for it’. Areas singled out for criticism include:

  • Average sound quality — which is a bit of an issue when being a music player is the W960i’s headline feature!
  • Design problems with the touch-control of the phone’s music playing app
  • Low quality stylus and badly implemented jog-dial control, with the latter’s design making it impossible to navigate the phone one-handed
  • An overall feeling that Nokia’s high-end Nseries handsets offer better value for money and have the benefits of being based on the S60 platform

This review will come as bitter disappointment to Sony Ericsson fans who’d been waiting for the W960i to lead the company’s charge against the Nseries and iPhone — and you can count us among those fans.

    Bullshit. 0% of truth.

I also beg to differ and believe the w960i will be very popular, the design features may also change according to some youtube video reviews, sony ericsson as always been my fav handset brand and with 8 gb memory , wi-fi connection and touch screen facility, with a sleek design, it meets my needs. I have already ordered this handset and can not wait to get it.

  3. 3 Peppix

next to the w960i is not a p1 but a m600, so I don’t know how your review could be serious….
    Best regards

    Its just opinions at the end of the day what others like others dont, some peeople demand certain features some dont. Emma (;

the review has nothing that backs it up
    just mere opinions
the w960 is amazingly great !

  6. 6 Caspar Field

    Really? Have you used one?

  7. 7 Haha

Are you working for Nokia ?

  8. 8 gordon hovey

No one ever mentions infrared . This GSM phone has got to be superior to any yet. 3,2 mp Camera, touch screen ,8Gb storage. And many more. Realtors use Infrared to open electronic lock bocks. Palm has been the only one to have a touch screen and infrared. Hats off to sony ericsson if this is true. Havent seen it yet only reading whats available.

  11. 11 Training Dogs

I wish i knew who worked for who! I just want a straigt up honest review, i love the look of this, but was disappointed to hear the great looking K850i become a big failure for several friends, thats why i am looking at this one now.
Brilliant website by the way. And if anyone needs free dog training information, dive into http://www.K9Obedience.co.uk :)

Frankly, the iphone sucks. I find it a bit useless. The features are just so-so compared to w960. I started using SE handsets 3 years ago, and SE never let me down… Unline nokia(USELESS PHONE!!)…. My friend isnt satisfied with the iphone purchase.. People who dont know crap about phones go for iphones.

  13. 13 barth simpson

hello people!!!!!!!!!!,well i need to say you has,i need an Sony W960i to work, hey Santa Claus i wan´t one!!!!!!!!

  14. 14 haloz

what? this review is not serious. how can i put this without being rude? nope i cant “a load of shit!” the w960i is a great phone full stop.

  15. 15 Mike

The w960i looks to me like an excellent mobile! The i-phone has been a huge gimmick with only it’s touch screen interface it’s saving grace.I have used Sony’s on and off for some years now and they have always been easy to navigate and the features have been impressive to say the least.I downloaded sat nav to my k800i and used a Gps reciever it’s excellent Bear in mind how long SE have dominated the market with their camera phones and still are doing….

  16. 16 DungNguyen
  17. 17 hekermeker

Nokia sucks. It’s only the name.Sony Ericsson is much much better.Nokia announces 350 hours standby for E51 and it lasts 72, with 10 minutes talking daily, 4G and Wlan off.
SE announces 440 hours for W960i and it lasts 120 hours with 10 minutes talking, 3G on and occasionally Wlan.

  18. 18 jake

this will be a definite IPHONE KILLER. even if it has bugs, the iphone also some of those. its better to get this than the iphone.

  19. 19 I HAVE THIS PHONE

i just got this phone and man i have to say IT’S AMAZING. it’s got everything i’ve been looking for in a phone. the battery sucks though but a portable charger or an extra battery will do the trick. compared to iphone, this one is a lot better. no offense intended. and nokia’s nseries needs an upgrade or something. the software is too crappy that sold my n76 after 3 months. glad i got a w960i. no regrets. GET YOURS already! it’s already out of stock in most stores ;p

  20. 20 random dude

Mobile review has always been very pro nokia, and the manner the review is written in is very unprofessional, nearly biased one might say. Read other reviews, T3 recently publised a review.

  21. 21 wanta960

Does anyone know when the 960 is available on three network?

  22. 22 chris

Well I got this phone yesterday, and so far it looks pretty decent. I kind of agree with the jog-dial control making it difficult to use the phone one-handed….maybe I’ll get more used to it though after a while.

Overall it looks like a massive step forward from my w810i, so I’m very happy with it.

  23. 23 roscoe

have just purchaced this phone and cannot disagree with anything said in the review.even worse, vodafone customers are being ripped off as there is NO BLUETOOTH headset with this phone, just the abysmal generic ones that come as standard. i have 4 pairs of these that i will never use.disappointed

  24. 24 Paul Macca

Have had the phone a week and i am a big sony mobile fan since the z5 flip. The w960i is a joke. Impossible messaging menu, on-off touch screen, freeze problems, hard shiny slippy keys, impossible comfortable one handed operation, so-so sound etc

  25. 25 Tamiltiger

Thid review is absolute ‘S#!T’ !!! I have recently bought the w960i. iphone is useless compared to the w960i, my mates who the iphone now regret buying it. Apple are just making money off people who do not know anything about phones, this review is so biased. The SE w960i is the best phone out in the current market without a doubt 9.5/10 for the w960i

    Honest reviews by the Tamiltiger

  26. 26 Dougie

Got the w960i and it does sound as good. I prefer the sound of the walkman to an ipod. Took a bit of getting used to as I’m used to w850i. I had a play about with the N95 and loved it but the sound wasn’t good.

  27. 27 gani

the best mobile phone i ever had

  28. 28 Spiked rose

To be frank the review on mobile review sounds more like a page filled with criticism rather den a comprehensive review. Words used are so complicated and rare that i doubt regular people will understand. I dont think they got their priorities right though…

  29. 29 Just Me

I wouldn’t touch an iPhone with a very long pole.. I mean it doesn’t even have Bluetooth (or Java)! Who’s stupid idea was that??? And yes, I think the W960i is a real competitor to the iPhone.

I’ve started using the W960i after using various Nokia phones for the last seven years. I generally got on with it after a few days of adapting, although there were a few things that bugged me about it (predictive text is a little frustrating and jog-dial button is badly placed). I really liked the Walkman function though.

Unfortunately I just found an issue accessing WAP sites with the W960i which Vodafone can’t explain (tried two different W960i handsets, and there wasn’t a problem with another Sony Ericsson model & a couple of different Nokias) and have had to return it to Vodafone in favour of the Nokia N95-8Gb - I rely on WAP sites a lot so I needed a phone without this particular issue.

Take-home message is W960i is excellent for music, but sucks for internet - hopefully they will eventually iron out this problem :-)

  30. 30 kimberly

so i personally don’t have this W960i, but i think it’s gorgeous and it seems to fit my every need. first, i’ve had 2 SE phones in the past couple of years, and it has NEVER let me down, even after dropping it many.. many times. and recently, i’ve changed to a motorola phone, specifically the z6. and it broke in the first 2 or 3 months. no way of fixing it cause the chip itself broke :\ basically, i’ve learned my lesson that SE phones are the best, in my opinion.
    that’s all.
    -kim :]

  31. 31 Samsung G800

You are not the first to have negative thoughts about this phone - The Gadget Show on BBC compared it with iPhone and N95 and it came last in terms of music experience - odd for a Walkman phone.

  32. 32 sai

should i buy the w960i or the n95 8gb iam confused reading the reviews pls somebody guide me

  33. 33 y2rf00

the gadget show loves the iphone i dont know why nthey named it gadget for the year. What a joke

  34. 34 michael

lost my interest after the first sentence. that is obviously a m600i not a p1i. would i listen to someone who can’t even get the phone’s name correct? no…

  35. 35 Garry

I’ve had my W960i for a week now and totally agree with the review. The W960i doesn’t live up to the image created by it’s looks and impressive specification list.

The first and foremost reason for this is the abysmal UIQ user interface which makes just about every single thing you do with the W960i fiddley and a constant swap around between jog, touch and keypad… messy! The lack of flexibility in personal choice in the location of icons and folders is annoying for me also.

Writing a text message on the keypad, without using prediction on the W960i has to be the most inefficient method yet created on a mobile phone. Press the key with the letter you want… move to jog dial, carefully rotate it to select the letter you want, press jog dial to select, move back to keypad to select next letter… repeat process. Oh and there is no method to scroll back through a message to correct or rewrite something other than getting the stylus out or trying a bit of target practice with your finger to place the cursor where you want it. Again more swapping around of input method on the same task. What are you thinking SE? So incredibley slow and fiddley, it’s madness!

It all makes using the W960i quickly on the move a bit of a non starter.

The sound quality is ok but that is it, only ok, not superb or anything like that. Certainly no better than my £20 mp3 player from ASDA. Which is quite disappointing. I also don’t like the way the Walkman tries to be too clever and over manage your files. There seems to be no option to simply access your music files, as they are, without the Walkman trying to manage them in some way. Stop it, it’s infuriating!

… and finally. Upon first start up you are given the option to select English (UK) as opposed to English (US) I selected English (UK) but the phone still uses the American spelling (with a z) for words like Organiser/Organizer and initialising and equaliser etc. etc. Come on SE if you are going to offer language slections, you might as well do it properly.

There is significant room for improvement with the W960i that I doubt could be achieved with a single firmware update.

  36. 36 SickPriest

“Average sound quality” HAHAHAHAHA!!! XD That made my day… rotfl XD

  37. 37 cvs04

I have both the iphone and the W960i. The iphone is far from perfect but the W960i is the bigggest piece of shit phone I’ve ever used and I just hope Vodafone will take it back. Can’t believe they even bothered to release it, it’s really slow, a ballache to use, has poor sound and shit graphics. So much so that I’m now using my old Sharp 903sh which is two years old and blinds it.

  38. 38 BELOWPAR

GARRY YOU ARE SPOT ON MY FRIEND…..

THE PHONE LOOKS GORGEOUS AND IS WELL PRESENTED BUT IM SORRY TO SAY ITS SHIT.TEXT MESSAGING IS A NIGHTMARE, SO FIDDLY! THE SOFTWARE IS SO SLOW AND FREEZES ALL THE TIME WHICH IS QUITE FRANKLY UNACCEPTABLE.ITS AS IF S.E DONT EVEN BUILD AND TEST A PROTOTYPE AND TEST THE USEABILITY! ITS CRAZY.I HAVE AN 10 YEAR OLD PHONE SITTING IN MY DRAWER THAT PERFORMS QUICKER AND EASIER.OK I CANT BROWSE THE NET ON IT, BUT HEY AT LEAST I CAN WRITE A TEXT WITH ONE HAND!!

OH AND ONE MORE THING,WITHOUT NAMING NAMES, WHY ARE PEOPLE WRITING ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD ABOUT A PHONE THEY DONT EVEN OWN, BUT HAVE MERELY SEEN????USE THE PHONE THEN COMMENT, THAT WOULD MAKE MORE SENSE.

  39. 39 sheelanagig

I have had this phone for 2 days now and i am seriously dissapointed in it.
I had the SE k800i before this and the main reason i loved it was for the camera, it was brilliant.

But the camera feature on this phone is so slow? is it just my fone or is this something others have noticed? Im not arsed about the 8gb memory as i already have an mp3 player, i bought this phone because i was due an upgrade and heard great things about it.
plus dont get me started on the touch screen…

i am seriously considering returning it…

  40. 40 chris

    I HAVE THIS PHONE

Can I just say my w800i sounds just as good :eyesroll

Volume is so low at max it will be unusable around a busy street, even with sonys great closed buds.

NO USER EQ Just crappy presets

4-5 second gaps between songs…my w800i is only about 1 sec

Try turning speaker phone off wile in a call haha

I wanted to love this as I got on with my little w880i so well.

I’m going nokia and getting a dedicated sony mp3 player instead.

The hand writing recognistion is excellent though! top marks here…but the interface is clunky and a pain in the arse, you need two hands to get round this phone.

Yes it looks sexy, but it use it is going to annoy even the most patient of us.

Plus you try finding a decent application or game for it ? I’ve googled for hours, somebody point me in the right direction.

I hope we meet again sony, but it’s only the ignorant and sucked in that think this phone is ok, and I bet they paid alot for it so have to justify it. I got mine on my contract and am sending back.
Trust me I wanted to love this phone, but sony are treating people like idiots this time. Check Ebay in a few months, you will get the picture.

Oh the camera and the video quality is awfull, it has the same spec video recording as other budget phones from SE (like my w800) 15fps,LOL what up with that ?

This phone is so over priced and it is not much better than a kseries, it has wifi and stuff, but it bloody well should have at this price point.

Tranfer rates for data are excellent, but the good points are few and far between. People just won’t get behind this disaster, a bit like it’s predecessor the w950…it will be a complete flop….you mark my words.

In short…forget about it if you can control yourself.

Do I get a n95 8gb I not sure where to go from here now ? The sound quality is rubbish on those things, it will have to be that and a dedicated walkman I feel :(

  41. 41 Clayer3

WTF is your problem man? I just got one of them and honest to go - i prefer it to that shitty Iphone crap.

you say the jog dial doesnt work…have you tried holding the phone in your left hand?

you say the touch screen doesnt work….have you tried using the stylus correctly?

you say the sound quality isnt great!!!….. have you even listened to the crap other phones pump out?

best sound quality i have heard was from that motorola with itunes on. nice sound but 1)it was a motorola 2)it was linked to apple and 3)it had the worst battery life ive ever seen for a phone

The SE w960i IS the sexyest mo’ fo’ on the market and not nokia, not apple, not even samsung have anything planed that is half as styleish as this.

the only downside I have found about this phone is that it’s firmware is based upon Symbion (or something) making it a little slow but nothing to complain about.

  42. 42 chris

Your objecting to things I haven’t stated, read the post first, and compared to lower spec ‘SONY’ phones it sounds shit, I have done side by side tests with the same file…and it is obvious.

My problem is sony are treating people like muppets.

Jusat got a sony walkman and it is far far better, and my new nokia is streets ahead in other departments.

Sony ius by far the most stylish, and ipods even more stylish…but whats the point of that if they sound rubbish for the money LOL

Yes they sound better than most phone mp3 players…but the should sound better than thier cheaper phones, I.e the w800.

Great if you like it, but I think it will end up annoying you, I know how to use a stylus, there isn’t a skill to it.

You telling me you use your stylus one handed or something ? LOL

People said the 950 was ok too, lol look how that sold.

  43. 43 Dog Behaviourist

I STILL don’t know who to trust!! However, i am going to stick with my experience and that is that Sony phones are excellent. Getting my new one tomorrow. W910i :)
I have a Samsung G600 amd whilst the phone FEELS like the best phone i have ever held, the software is just not for me, maybe because it is junk, and maybe because i am used to Sony Ericsson. Either way, i can’t use it, everything seems so illogical so i am going back to what i know best!

  44. 44 Dog Behaviourist

Well i have the W910i and its fantastic, though i must admit i am sick jealous of my friend who has a 960. Just a bit too chunk to carry in pocket whilst running round the fields all day :) I am slowly working up an argument for having two phones (to stay in touch on email and business, and keep one private) and when i finally succumb to my own needs (desires:)) then this is definitely the one for me.
Good luck with your choices, but for me you can’t beat a SE, whatever the model, other than the K850i which i found diabolical and really threatened the SE reputation for some people, not for me though.

  45. 45 ruby

you go clayer3 man i bought a W960I AND IT IS F*CKIN AMAZIN i have found no downsides and the best fing about it is the trackid you record 30 secs of a track and it automatically finds the name of the album, artist and song!!! how cool is that??!!
its THE BEST fone i have ever had
IT PISSES ON THE IPHONE AND N95 PUT TOGETHER
YOUR REVIEW IS MESSED MAN U NEED 2 TRY BUYING ONE AND THEN USING IT PROPERLY MAYBEEE
THE W960I IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

  46. 46 Robinhood

i brought it today its not bad its more ov a buisnness type phone than other se but still really good if people doubt me you dont know what your missing =(

  47. 47 Samantha

Good looking; sound quality more than adequate; radio reception a bit “iffy”; camera quite good. Horribly slow screens and accepting/reading a new messages is dreadful. Nothing is configurable; very little is intuitive. Closing a web portal is a minefield. Impossible to switch off speaker once call is answered. On ALL previous SE phones that I’ve owned (a lot), it took 2 actions to delete an entry from the call list … now it takes 5; that is NOT progress. I get the impression that it was released partly untested and in a hurry. I would hope that a firmware upgrade could fix some of the ghastly faults but suspect not as the CPU is probably prehistoric. UIQ is not a good package. In the interim, I’ll keep using my W850i: great phone.

  48. 48 Paul

I have just received my SE W960i and I must say I love it, Thats not to say it’s perfect - the camera picture quality is not the best, I used to have a W810i which I still think was/is a brilliant phone, and the picture quality on it’s 2mp seems to be better, but to be fair I haven’t fiddled with the settings yet.
I also this the stylus is a bit cheap and crappy,my precious phone was the M600i and it’s stylus is metal not bendy plastic.
I read an online review of the W960i and the reviewer said there wasn’t predictive text. I simply pressed and held the * key and turned it on.
All in all I do love this phone, I have had a few SE and much prefer them to the other brands I have owned

  49. 49 Chris

Ruby…I have had it and sent it back..and get over the track id it’s on 90% of the sony phones ..even the budget LOL

Look mega pixels have nothing to do with image quality and only come into effect at large size picture e.g 8×10 inch and above, so wheter you have a 2 mega pixel cam or a 5 it will make no difference when resized to a normal photo size, e.g 6×4 inch.

That is why the old sonys seem to have better image quality..they where better cameras inside than the later 2007 model sonys.

It’s funny to see people sticking up for a comapny and being ripped off at the same time..if only people would learn about there stuff they wouldn’t sound so foolish.

I loved sony phones before 2007..but wake up people and do your research.

of course if you sub 18yrs you will probably spew out some rubbish like

‘it iz da best fone eva so der’

But you would still be a muppet buying technology you don’t understand….sony love people like you LOL

  50. 50 Kanwar Anand

Interesting article , really. I’ve waited far too long for the Iphone but I have now lost my interest owing to how much time it’s taking to make it to the land of India. I will now go for the 960i. I hear it’s not the greatest phone out there but it arguably does sound like a safe bet. It is a bit too expensive and not competitively priced, atleast not yet. W950 - A friend of mine has it and likes it a lot, his office doesn’t allow cameras you see. W810 - I have this phone and it’s been two years, decent phone but the messaging storage limit reduced the bouyancy of my life, socially. Nokia phones are on their way out like we’ve observed previously. A friend of mine has the Iphone, it takes great pictures, focussing on the object in such a way that the the object looks so clear and if you’re standing in front of a white wall, only you can be seen and not the image behind. It has a great inbuilt ability to carbon out a person standing but such a lot of features are packed and I just won’t buy from the grey market.

I don’t know anyone who has a W960i. Someone has to take the plunge. A close family relative has the P1i , he likes it a lot but finds it a bit difficult to get used to since he’s used Nokia all his life. I think for all of us guys out there who’re technically inclined, it’s difficult to look beyond a SE. A nokia will no longer suffice.

Samsung and LG can try hard but they’ll never win. Motorola just not for me though their phones have great adverts and sounds in their adverts. :)

I can’t wait to get my W960i, it’ll cost 1.5 times my monthly salary though.

  51. 51 Pol MC Caffs

No sht! Upgrade online now! i did yestterday 23/3/08 . Well done SE. I love it. All sorted … nearly .. get a flash player now and it’s the phone of the decade…well done all. BUY NOW.

  52. 52 Pankaj

yes …….I got this phone last week…..and its the best I have ever used.. average sound quality …who ever says this - might be working for iphone …

  53. 53 Strony Internetowe

Hi, I’m trying to install flash player to W960i. Is it possible? Please let me know.

  54. 54 Callum

i’ve had this phone for about 3 week now, and im a “sub-18″ teenager, and i would like you chris to stop sterotyping us all together like that lol

now on to the phone, personally i think it is a great phone, better than my old W580, which i has for 2 month and was massivly dissaponited. the only downsides is the stylus and the messaging (the amount of time to open up the message), the stylus looks good INSIDE the phone and nothing else, my friend has the LG Viewty, and his stylus is completly better than mine, and that is the only thing he has over my phone (well maybe the slow motion replay, but who uses that anyway??) the original review was complete bollacks and very little truth to be found to the extremist SE haters.

  55. 55 Lukas

    Oh Dear.

I’m one of those “sub-18″ teenagers and i am seriously in two minds now. damn you.

i was in love with this phone, i had watched reviews on you tube and wanted one for months but its now that i can upgrade… but because i have heard that normal texting is, in a word, CRAP, i really really dont know what to do =[

can some one email me ( luke-lowe@hotmail.co.uk ) and put me straight. i currently own a w850i, and spend alot of time texting in lessons using one hand in my pocket…. aka blind texting. is this going to be possible with the w960i?

    thanks all -Lukas.

  56. 56 Rimbo

I admit to being a bit of a SE fan (I’ve had a couple of Nokias, a disastrous short lived effort with the O2 X2 and since then its been the K700i, W800, K750i and now the W960i). Don’t believe the negative comments and get one of these today. It takes a little while to get used to after the K750i with regard texting and calls, but once you’ve got to grips with it, it’s absolutely fine. Lovely looking phone, nice in the hand, software is fine, music quality is excellent and the stylus, is well, a stylus!!! What do people expect from a stylus?! It’s a tool to touch the screen more accurately for goodness sake! Lukas above mentioned one handed blind texting. You won’t be able to do it using this phone, but then you shouldn’t be doing it anyway during lessons!! One downside is the alarm only works when the phone is on - so leave the phone on.

I’ve got colleagues with iphones, Nseries and viewty. We agree that it beats the Viewty hands down, is in line with but just above the Nseries (far too builky and old fashioned looking for my liking), but doesn’t beat the iphone.

Reviewers need to remember that if you want an amazing digital camera, but a digital camera. If they want an amazing MP3 player, buy an MP3 player. If they want an amazing video player, buy a video player etc etc.

Basically this phone is a very very good all rounder and will keep me happy for the next 12 months when my contract runs out and I’ll have a look at what else is about.

    Hope this helps.

Ps the Vijay golf game is ace!!

  57. 57 Rimbo

And As for Chris’s comments on the 18th March - please take your head out of your arse you jumped up twat!

  58. 58 shame

i have a w 960i and i love it..thei would never be a perfect phone with everything on it. everyday, new technology comes out and its impossible to fit it in just one phone and if i were to make and sell phones, ill never put everything on just one phone,my other products won’t sell if thats the case. certain features must only be available to a certain model and all brands are like that different features with different models. cellphones have been out for a long time and all phone models have different features,so if u don’t like it,don’t buy it.. choose the one that suits your needs.

As an update - had mine now since May and have not had a single freeze, fault or problem - apart from getting hooked on the damn golf game! Still gets my thumbs up people.

Have had the phone now for about 8 months.
Freeez ups freeze ups and freeze-ups…
If the phone has one of these, pulling the battery off is the only way out!
sometimes the phone rings, but you can’t pick it up nor see who is calling…
    Syncronisation often won’t succeed…
I love the phone… but PLEASE work hard for another firmware that helps out!

I love this phone. Im addicted to phones, must have tried so many different phones before I stumbled upon this one. I don’t have the best reputation for phones, i normally break them within a week or more commmonly drop them down the toilet. Wasn’t a big fan of touchscreens after the LG viewty but saw the w960i and thought waheey best of both worlds. Its perfect, takes some time to get used to but is SO easy to use after as it has a touchscreen and a keypad. I’ve read here some people think nokias n series are better. Nokias are known for their unreliable software. I have tried the n81 and n95, Both a pile of crap !! … Saying all this.. my touchscreen broke on my w960i about 1 hour ago.. Getting another one of these beauties though.

All this is crap , w960i is definitely the best phone around and also is the ultimate iphone killer , just compare their specs and you will know what i am trying to tell
    THE BEST PHONE OF 2007-08

I’m longed for this phone for ages last year, i remember counting down the days and how excited i was when it eventually turned up, and couldn’t care less about the fact it set me back a 18 x £30 month contract and it still cost £130. It was superb. But now i’m really disappointed. It’s been back to base for repair 3 times, and i’ve done countless software updates. the latest one i had lasted just 2 days. 2. I’m gutted. completely, and as my phone company won’t do anything about it, i’m considering court action. all this over a dream phone. The potential was awesome, touch screen, great camera, awesome spec, but if it isn’t reliable, whats the point? I’m a HUGE S.E. fan, having an S.E since the T610 (which still works now!!) but this has completely ruined it for me. Anyone else feeling really truely gutted with it? I mean, 4 break downs in 8 months, thats pretty poor init?

Looking at the statistics and its features, it looked an amazing phone. I spent many weeks researching the 960 and its competition before I made my choice in buying the Sonyericsson 960, now 5 months and my second 960i, I have come to conclusion this is the worst telephone, I have ever owned, never have I felt such rage, with an electronic item (I want to smash it daily). Its poorly designed navigation including the jog wheel coupled with the software, that is seriously flawed, memory hungry, and very clunky. The 960 crashes several times a day meaning, I have to constantly take the battery out and restart it, the touch screen freezes or locks up, or only works on the task manger. Making and receiving calls is a task, as it seems to lock up or crash just when I need it most. I have done all I can updating the OS calls to Sony etc I have even looked for an aftermarket OS. I fear I will have back to using an old phone and relegate this to the junk draw or use as a mp3 player at the gym.

I work for a telecommunications company and have just had this phone returned to me today regarding a touch screen issue. Basically every time the user receives a call or tries opening applications the sensor where you should usually touch “moves” around the screen making this phone impossible to use. Has anyone ever experienced or heard of this problem before as handset has been sent away for repair but just curious really???
