‘Oh no you didn’t!’ says chemical industry group to Greenpeace

bsef_logo.gifRemember Greenpeace getting all uppity about the iPhone’s chemical nasties last week? Well, in the parlance of our times, ‘it’s on now’ as the BSEF (that’s The Bromine Science and Environmental Forum to you and me) has hit back at Greenpeace.

The chemical industry group has condemned Greenpeace, pointing out that none of the substances the organization is criticizing Apple for including in the device are currently banned under environmental law.

All the substances reported by Greenpeace are approved for use, and provide critical performance and safety functions in a wide range of electronic products.

Still, Apple must be removing the chemicals mentioned from its products for a reason (as it has pledged to do so by the end of 2008) but it is interesting to hear the other side of the story on this one…. Although it does sound a bit like a scene from Thank You For Smoking.
