Carphone Warehouse launches its own pay monthly mobile service - Talkmobile

carphone_warehouse1_large.jpgThe Carphone Warehouse has just launched its own low-cost U.K. mobile phone service, after signing a deal with Vodafone to rent some of its network space. The service is called Talkmobile and offers 9 month contracts for £12 per month which includes 50 minutes of calls and 50 text messages. It sounds fairly progressive to us considering most networks only offer 12, 18 and 24 month contracts.

It raises all sorts of questions about what sort of handsets will be available with such a deal. For £12 per month we would say you shouldn’t expect to get anything too fancy. Being that the Carphone Warehouse’s primary business is handsets however, there may be some sweet deals waiting in the wings to surprise us.

This is not the Carphone Warehouse’s first foray into network territory as it currently offers its own branded pay-as-you-go service, Fresh, via T-Mobile. The new Talkmobile service could be great for travelers spending less than a year in the UK who want to have a native mobile during their stay.
