What with the launch of the iPhone in the UK and moving to a new server, we have been a little on the busy side lately which has meant that our weekly look at the mobile games doing the rounds on our sister site Pocket Gamer has fallen by the wayside somewhat. So without further delay it’s time for a brief round-up of the big name titles that have delighted and disappointed over the last two weeks.
Unfortunately for you lot good things don’t come to those who wait as the game that opens this round-up is the decidedly limp Crash of the Titans. It certainly had the looks, but the gameplay just didn’t match up for this side-scrolling brawler leaving it with a disappointing 5 out of 10.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on the other hand was deserving of the its hype with elegant controls and more importantly, a feel that is consistent with the much loved console versions. A triumph then and well placed at 9 out of 10.
Another solid effort was had at the hands (or at the wheel rather), of Need for Speed: Pro Street. Despite being a little skimpy in the content stakes, the game was deserving of praise for its flashy visuals and hi octane racing thrills scoring 8 out of 10.
Next up was Rocky 3D: Apollo’s Fall, a boxing sim which, despite featuring a likeness of Sylvester Stallone, was very pretty to look at and not at all bad to play either scoring a rock solid 7 out of 10.
Assassins Creed was the next title to vault onto our handsets and lots of fun it was too with its well balanced blend of medieval parkour and killing things with swords gameplay. Not too shabby in the looks department either making for a sound 8 out of 10 mark.
For those who love stats and the beautiful game, Real Football: Manager Edition put in a good performance delivering all that you could want from a football management sim for 9 out of 10.
The game of the film of the poem, Beowulf was a dependable hack ‘n’ slash effort that was great fun for its annoyingly fleeting duration earning it 7 out of 10.
Last but by no means least was the murderous double act, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men which cemented action platformers as the theme of the week with its 2D side-scrolling shooty action. Again a bit on the short side, so not an essential purchase but still worth 7 out of 10 if you have to put a number on it.
That’s it for now; we’ll be taking another visit to our sister site before you know it (on Monday) for a more comprehensive round-up of the previous week’s games.
