New Google Maps for Windows Mobile

google mapsGoogle has updated the Windows Mobile version of Google Maps for Mobile.

The new native (i.e. non-Java) version brings the app into line with its Symbian counterpart, and adds a few new features to boot. The native Windows Mobile code runs a lot faster than the old Java Midlet and is much better at integrating with other features and apps on your handset.

The interface feels smoother and cleaner and makes much better use of the stylus.

The search function is now integrated into your contacts list and address and phone details can easily be saved from search results as well as the usual ‘tap to dial’ option.

Windows Mobile users finally have support for GPS devices and if you are in the US, you can see real-time traffic updates in 30 cities, with more to follow - hopefully this will include the UK and Europe.

Also new is an enhanced ‘KB-o-meter’ that lets you view your data usage in real time as you browse the map.
