We barely have high definition video up and running on mobile phones and now already an executive from Nokia is touting the arrival of HD video cameras in phones. Speaking to Reuters, Nokia’s Chief Technology Officer Tero Ojanpera commented on the tech:
It’s coming. Technically, we are a couple of years away.
Not a terribly revealing comment then but it does let us know that we don’t have long to wait. With phones already posing a serious threat to mid range digital snappers, camcorders could be the next in the firing line from mobile tech.
Of course there are various pitfalls that need to be overcome before this is a reality, the battery draining powers of mobile video recording being just one. Nokia’s boffins will surely have it sussed before long however and by the time they do, chances are we will be among the many others signing up for a baker’s dozen of the things.

Sure. I will believe it when I see it. With a minimum 6 month development cycle for a new phone that would mean they have the technology to pull this off in a year or so.
