Apple ups UK iPhone purchasing limit to five handsets

Until now, iPhones were strictly limited to two per person in the UK (and other countries), which was widely interpreted as an attempt to stop thousands of ‘em popping up on eBay for inflated prices. Of course, the alternative way of looking at it was that Apple was keen to make the iPhone as widely available as possible in the run-up to Christmas.

Either way, they’ve dumped the policy now. According to Wired, the limit has been upped to five iPhones per person in the US and UK, just in time for the festive season. Good news if you’re rich enough to want to buy every member of your family an iPhone.

If eBay was the reason for the former policy, it makes sense to up the limit. With iPhones now freely available in UK stores, there simply isn’t the same kind of markup to be had from reselling the handset online - at least, not unless it’s unlocked to work on other operators.
