Cor, reading magazines on your iPhone? Sounds like a good idea to me: get me the latest issues of the NME, Arena, Mojo and Heat please. What’s that? Oh, Texterity is more US-focused, and it’s got a wider range than just consumer magazines - so get set for CabinetMaker, Injection Molding Magazine, Microwave Journal and, oh yes, The Old Farmers Almanac. How many old farmers have an iPhone, d’you reckon?
Anyway, enough facetiousness. Texterity’s site at least works nicely on an iPhone, with a simple interface to navigate through pages from (presumably) the latest edition of each magazine, ads’n'all. It feels a bit clunky due to being a static website rather than a truly interactive magazine - I wanted to touch items on the Contents page and go straight to them, but you’re restricted to flicking through page by page until you get to the one you want.
Nevertheless, you can see the potential for reading print publications on the iPhone, if you’re not happy with these new-fangled website things (I’m talking to you, farmers). Perhaps when Apple’s software development kit is in the hands of developers, someone will create a more interactive version, complete with click-throughs from the adverts.
