Nokia’s UK managing director, Simon Ainslie has recently been talking about the future of the company stating that Nokia will become a Web 2.0 outfit rather than just a device company.
The idea is that the company will increasingly be looking to secure tech and services in acquisition deals so that the company can punt a broader range of connected services under the Nokia banner. Moves have in fact already been made with Nokia’s recent acquisition of Navteq which will aid the company in making an aggressive push into the GPS device market both for mobile handsets and vehicles.
It seems like a smart road map for the company given the looming competition. With Google set to make its move on the mobile market, there is inevitably all manner of Web 2.0 goodness that it will bring with it and if the competition doesn’t prepare, it might find itself swamped.
